Below is an extensively revised version of my article Flights 1549, 3407, 9/11 and the War On Terror posted on Townhall February 20, 2009.

Five years ago Tuesday February 12th tragedy struck our nation in upstate New York as Continental Air Flight 3407 en route to Buffalo from Newark Airport crashed just short of its destination killing everyone aboard. Sadly among the victims was 9/11 widow Beverly Eckert co-chairperson of the Voices of 9/11 a lobbying group that forced Congress to reform the US intelligence system and establish the 9/11 Commission. Mrs. Eckert was traveling to a high school ceremony to celebrate her husband’s 58th birthday. The celebration was to be held at a high school in Clarence, New York the town where, ironically, 3407 went down. Mrs. Eckert and her husband were teenage sweethearts and first met at the school. A sad and touching story that brings tears to my eyes (see).
Coming just 28 days after the miraculous emergency Hudson River landing of US Airways Flight 1549 (whose crew and passengers all survived, including John Howell brother of a 9/11 victim) the destruction of 3407 and death of Beverly Eckert (who ominously met with President Obama just six days before in Washington*) was an unmistakable sign warning Obama of mass domestic jihadist attacks unless he fully adopted his predecessor’s national security model and counter-terrorist programs (including EITs**) which kept us safe for sevcn years. This Obama hasn’t done as he’s been ideologically focused on appeasing enemies, ending the Pax America in the Middle East (the incubator of Islamic terror), fighting global warming as a greater threat than jihad to our national security, and transforming our nation into a utopian Mecca of social justice equality.
*This was at a meeting with the families of 9/11 and USS Cole victims.
** Enhanced Interrogation Techniques (waterboarding, etc.) which may have saved thousands of lives has been foolishly banned by Obama.
That the destruction of 3407 was a warning directed at our 44th president and the possible devastating consequences of not zealously giving the utmost priority to the War on Terror like the Bush Administration did is not only suggested by his meeting with Eckert just days before her death, but that she was one of 44 passengers who died that day*, portentously giving us Obama’s presidency number.
*A total of 50 people were killed: 4 crew members, 44 passengers, 1 off duty flight attendant and 1 resident of a house that was struck (see).
Since the plane’s destruction we have been hit in two mass causality terror attacks and several fortunate near misses. Indeed, al Qaida jihadist Nidal Hasan slaughtered 13 Americans and an unborn child at Ft. Hood; underwear al Qaida bomber Umar Abdulmutallab nearly blew up North Eastern Airlines Flight 253 with 289 aboard; Pakistani al Qaida jihadist Faisal Shahzad nearly detonated a massive car bomb in Times Square that could have killed dozens and injured hundreds; Marathon al-Qaida killers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev murdered five and injured hundreds in terror bombings and shootings in and around Boston; and the following day in San Jose (on the sixth anniversary of the Virginia Tech massacre) an electric substation came under heavy sniper attack shutting down 17 transformers that looked like a dry run for something bigger. Moreover, since 3407 al Qaida abroad struck the US consulate at Benghazi and a petro plant in Algeria killing a total of 7 Americans-and is advancing across the Middle East as Obama dangerously leads our nation into geostrategic retreat.
Bin Laden is dead but his legend and memory live on inspiring a new generation of savage jihadists at home and abroad-energized and determined to kill our citizens en masse for Allah, Islam and return of the caliphate.
