DETROIT IS OBAMAVILLE

Read my lips people: Detroit won't go bankrupt.
And neither shall America.
I promise on my mother's
Marxist grave
(see).

By transforming America into "A More Perfect Union" Barack Obama means "A More Perfect Dependency Welfare Union" of ever increasing poverty, degradation, and social pathologies-the terrible hell born from leftist good intentions of equalizing wealth. The growth of state power and control at the cost of human dignity, productivity and economic freedom means the Detroiting of America....with more citizens taking benefits, subsidies and handouts from government (in an unchecked entitlement state) than are paying in taxes-as the state grows faster than the private sector it consumes and destroys it sucking up more capital and resources and making everyone poorer.

The same big government mentality that wrecked Detroit in the names of fairness, equality, shared prosperity, and social justice (with high taxation, fat public pensions and redistribution of wealth) is fanatically alive in the intransigent White House blindly bent on staying the course to nationalizing Detroit while hoping against hope for a better outcome. As the third worlding and bankrupting of liberal Democrat Detroit (which Obama swore wouldn't happen) foreshadows what Obama and his party are doing to America it's not mistaken to say that Obama owns Detroit, and that DETROIT IS OBAMAVILLE....or that we're headed towards Greece and blood in the streets if the insanity continues.

The city where poverty conspiciously defeated liberalism's War on Poverty...as it did across the country.

OBAMA, OBAMACARE AND THE DETROITING OF AMERICA

The slums of Democrat Detroit-the leftist liberal hell hole of America-
looks like a third world shanty town emblematic of what big government entitlement mad liberalism is doing to this declining country.

WAKE UP AMERICA!

The economic catastrophe decimating Detroit
is coming to a city or town
near you.

Let's take a walk down memory lane and what the bumbling, stumbling, fumbling Promise Breaker-in-Chief, who swore that leftist liberal black Detroit wouldn't go bust, said about preventing the bankrupting of this country. It was December 2009, the country was $11 trillion in debt and Obama-ignoring the economy and failure of his stimulus policies-was busting his arse pushing for healthcare reform against a skeptical public who rightly found his promises nonsensical: "We'll extend coverage to 30 million people and improve quality and accessibility while bringing down costs."

With Medicare and Medicaid going broke the country opposed him not wanting a new large Federal entitlement program that would likely aggravate the situation and explode costs. Obama failing to garner support and at his wits end went into scaremongering mode warning the American people that if he didn't get his way and Obamacare was defeated the Federal government would certainly go bankrupt. In an interview with ABC's Charley Gibson Obama warned:

“If we don't pass it, here's the guarantee….your premiums will go up, your employers are going to load up more costs on you. Potentially they're going to drop your coverage, because they just can't afford an increase of 25 percent, 30 percent in terms of the costs of providing health care to employees each and every year (see).”

Well guess what, three years into Obamacare and another $6 trillion in debt another Obama promise hits the rocks: premiums are skyrocketing, costs are rising everywhere and employers are dropping coverage for hundreds and thousands of workers which have the unions up in arms. Obama who solemnly pledged that leftist liberal black Detroit wouldn't go broke if he were reelected, and that the Federal government because of Obamacare was no longer on an unsustainable path towards (entitlement driven) bankruptcy is now dead on course to Detroiting America.

CAN BENGHAZI STILL BE OBAMA’S WATERGATE AND RUIN 2016 FOR HILLARY?

http://www.humanevents.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/AP358870053074-620x484.jpg

Was George McGovern's death on October 21, 2012 (in between the deadly Benghazi attack and the November 6th election) a meaningful oracular coincidence ominously signaling that the Nixon-like wall of silence and lies surrounding the worst coverup and protection scandal since Watergate will eventually crack and crumble before Obama leaves office? And that the suppressed truth will emerge damaging Obama's credibility and Hillary's chances of being president?

Aside from McGovern's death as a possible sign of misfortune ahead for both Obama and Clinton there are some fascinating parallels between Obama and Nixon suggesting that he's the New Richard Nixon...and that he could leave office in disgrace and resign and take down Hillary with him. Here is what I mean:

When the most mendacious and distrustful president since Richard Nixon beat Mitt Romney to keep himself in office as the 44th US president 44 years earlier in 1968 Nixon defeated Romney's father George for the Republican Party's presidential nomination-seeming to foreshadow his son's defeat.

Obama and Nixon are the only presidents in US history to end a war inherited from a predecessor belonging  to the opposing party. Moreover, in both cases that predecessor (LBJ and George Bush) was from Texas.

Just as the Watergate break-in occurred during the 1972 election when McGovern was running for president, so too Benghazigate and the death of Ambassador Stevens occurred during the 2012 election when George McGoven died.

Just as Nixon was elected and reelected president in years ending in the numbers 8 and 2 (1968 and 1972) the same is true for Obama who was elected president in 2008 then reelected in 2012.

HILLARY, MCGOVERN AND NIXON

Also fascinatingly odd and perhaps meaningful is that Hillary "what difference does it make" Clinton (a party to the Benghazi cover-up, misinformation and lies) worked with soon to be husband Bill on the 1972 McGovern campaign, and was a member of the impeachment inquiry staff advising the House Committee on the Judiciary during the Watergate scandal. The committee's work culminated in Nixon's resignation. Clinton was fired from the staff for unethical behavior that should have got her disbarred.

And odder still, and quite amazing, McGovern (who failed to become president) was laid to rest on October 26, 2012, the day Hillary Clinton celebrated her 65th birthday.

Could the above indicate that those doggedly investigating Benghazigate will eventually succeed in working their way up the food chain and reach the top thus burying Hillary's chances of becoming president? Or will Hillary's lies to the American people and the parents of the four Benghazi victims suffice to sink her dreams for 2016?

We shall see.

POSTSCRIPT

40 YEARS AND 40 DAYS

As Watergate is to Benghazigate so is Benghazigate to the death of George McGovern. This is what I mean: from the Watergate break-in of June 17, 1972 to the scandalous assassination of Ambassador Stevens last year was 40 years; and from the deadly al-Qaida attack on the Benghazi consulate on September 11, 2012 to McGovern's death October 21st was exactly 40 days.

When Barack Obama was born on August 4, 1961, Richard Nixon , the man destined to be our 37th president (born January 9, 1913) was 48 years old. Exactly 48 years later Barack Obama was celebrating his birthday in the White House. Moreover, if you count the number of days separating these two birth dates it gives us the five digit number 17739. This number is interesting and maybe significant in that it can be rearranged to read as 71973 or 7-1973 suggesting the 7th month of 1973-the month when the Watergate scandal blew up in Nixon's face. This was when Sam Ervin and the Senate Watergate Committee learned that Nixon had a voice activated tape recording system in the White House....which led to the discovery of the 18 minute gap, the first hard blow dealt to Nixon's credibility. From then on it was all downhill.

In 2008 Obama smiled and lied his way to the White House portraying himself as a political messiah on a mission of national and global salvation exploiting the left's need for a hero and savior figure. in 2012 his reelection team was Richard Nixon's dirty tricks squad on steroids. He smiled, lied and vilified his way to a second term winning election with no governing mandate as he lost 5 million votes from 2008 and failed to win back Congress for his party. Obama it seems is an ill-starred reelected president just as Richard Nixon was in 1972. And indeed, the first year of Obama's second term has been the worst of his presidency with legislative defeats and scandals following scandals...and now the Obamacare mess-the predicted train wreak.

Could it be that history will show that Barack Obama was the unlucky winner of the 2012 presidential race just as Nixon was in 1972? I believe it will.

TEN YEARS OF JIHAD WATCH AND STILL GOING STRONG

Ten years of Jihad Watch

by

Robert Spenser

Ten years ago, on October 28, 2003, I started Jihad Watch. Since then I've been at this every day (except for two or three days out of 3,650, missed due to travel), putting up 34,056 posts (out of a total of 44,415) containing news and commentary about jihad activity, domestic and international, violent and stealthy...read more

MY EDUCATION INTO ISLAMIC JIHAD

began with the Jewish activist Rabbi Meir Kahane and his disciple Victor Vancier, who taught me it was the driving force behind the Arab-Israeli conflict and annihilating hatred of the Jewish State, and was later greatly enriched and brought to perfection (on the stealth side) by Robert Spenser who I discovered on Jihadwatch.

No one has done more or better than the brilliant and relentless Mr. Spenser to cut through the ancient web of obfuscation, propaganda and deceit and expose the terrible reality of JIHAD: the evil, intolerant, tyrannical, imperialistic core of the Koran, and it's author's deadly and poisonous Islamic Supremacism and vision of world rule-which underlie the destruction of the Twin Towers and murdered thousands since in worldwide terror.

Nor has anyone done more or better to expose the blindness and stupidity of the politically correct Islamophilia of the Moslem appeasing, butt-kissing Left and its danger to freedom, progress and Western Civilization. The intrepid Robert Spenser is the intellectual Charles Martel, and we are his army in the war of ideas.

FROM DARKNESS TO DARKNESS: THE AGE OF BUSH AND OBAMA

In 2008 Barack Obama rode the whirlwind of Bush derangement insanity all the way to the White House; and used fear of return to the Bush era to win reelection. But much of the Bush era continues and remains.

Bush's Gitmo is still open with inmates suffering hell (tear tears).

Bush's drones are still flying killing enemies and innocents (two cheers).

Brush's Afghan War is still raging and US troops dying (let them fight or bring 'em home).

Bush's surveillance state is still spying collecting massive and targeted data on friend and foe alike (a mixed bag).

Bush's counterterrorism program is still in place catching jihadists and stopping deadly mass terror strikes (hip hip hurray).

Bush's Patriot Act is still the law of the land and FISA Courts are still in use (a okay).

On January 20, 2009 the "Dark Age" of Bush's "barbaric" Republican reign was supposed to end with a clean, absolute, moral break from Bush era practices and policies because "they didn't reflect true American values, shredded the Constitution and hurt our image in the world."

Could it then be that Bush's "criminal torture" practices to "sadistically" extract critical life saving information from captured Islamic killers at secret foreign sites are still being used to protect citizens and allies? (Hopefully).

"The more things change the more they stay the same." At least somethings anyway.

As Benghazigate Obama is the most lawless, underhanded, distrustful, pledge-breaking, hypocritical president to disgrace his office since Richard Nixon anything and everything is possible.

http://thisistwitchy.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/obama-zip-nixon.jpg?w=430&h=585

Will the ultra-mendacious Obama (who compulsively lies for his regressive vision of A More Perfect Dependency Union) join Richard Nixon in the Presidents' Hall of Shame with his legacy in ashes despised by Left and Right and most heads of state? It sure looks that way.

WHAT DID DEMOCRAT GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWNS COST THE US ECONOMY?

SHAME ON YOU REPUBLICANS
for costing Obama's weak, pathetic trickle growth economy $24 billion! When Democrats shut down government five times in the late 1970s causing Jimmy Carter's miserable stagflationary economy $85 billion that was okay. It's only when you Republicans cost the economy money that's it's shameful and vile.

The 16 day "world ending" federal shutdown was the 18th and third longest in our history. Of these 18 Democrats were responsible for 15 Republicans for 3 giving us a ratio of 3:1. Now (rightly or wrongly) according to Standard & Poors the cost of the shutdown to the economy was an estimated $24 billion (see); assuming that S&P is correct and that 16 days of shutdown would consistently cost $24 billion (or $1.5 billion per day) what then would be the total cost of Democrat shutdowns versus Republican shutdowns since the first shutdown 37 years ago? According to my calculations (using $26 billion as a baseline) Democrat shutdown costs to the economy are twice Republican costs. Here is how I figure it:

Below is a list of all 18 government shutdowns and their duration, ending with "D" or "R" indicating which party was responsible (see)

      September 30 to October 11, 1976 (10 days) D
September 30 to October 13, 1977 (12 days) D
October 31 to November 9, 1977 (8 days) D
November 30 to December 9, 1977 (8 days) D
September 30 to October 18, 1978 (18 days D
September 30 to October 12, 1979 (11 days) D
November 20 to November 23, 1981 (3 days) D
September 30 to October 2, 1982 (1 day) D
December 17 to December 21, 1982 (3 days) D
November 10 to November 14, 1983 (3 days) D
September 30 to October 3, 1984 (2 days) D
October 3 to October 5, 1984 (1 day) D
October 16 to October 18, 1986 (1 day) D
December 18 to December 20, 1987 (1 day) D
October 5 to October 9, 1990 (3 days) D
November 13  to November 19, 1995 (5 days) R
December 5, 1995 to January 6, 1996 (21 days) R
October 1, 2013 to October 17, 2013 (16 days) R

You will notice that the 15 Democrat shutdowns totaled 84 days, while the three Republican shutdowns totaled exactly half at 42. Now if every 16 days of shutdown cost the economy $24 billion (or $1.5 billion per day) then 84 days would cost a total of $126 billion, and 42 days $63 billion. Well then if Republicans and Tea Party patriots are “arsonists,” “extortionists,” “terrorists,” and every imaginable evil thing under the sun for shutting the government down for 16 days at a cost of $24 billion then Democrats are doubly, monstrously and satanically evil for costing the economy twice the overall sum of Republicans and inflicting far greater pain. In other words, Republicans have much catching up to do to match Democrat wickedness.

CRITICAL COMMENT FROM WILLIAM OF WALES

My dear Apollo,

greatly enjoyed your article, and original approach to the subject. But a little friendly criticism is in order. You’re wrong about the Democrats owning all of the first 15 US government shutdowns. And you’re wrong about Republicans owning the last three. No doubt Democrats bore responsibility for the first six shutdowns under Ford and Carter. But the seventh in 1981 was due to Ronald Reagan; and the 16th in 1995 was due to Bill Clinton. In those two years Reagan and Clinton ordered the shutdowns because Congress wouldn’t give them the budget they wanted. So the score of 15 to 3 holds with Democrats picking up and Republicans losing two days, 86 to 40, with Democrats costing the economy a few billion more.

God bless,

William

 APOLLO ANSWERS XAVIER AND OBAMAROCKS

Xavier says:

Question for Apollo: You said in your reply to Eric23skidoo that it’s “impossible to determine or quantify the economic damage done by government shut downs; and that S&P’s figure of $24 billion is “obviously bogus and politically motivated.” I’d appreciate it if you could elaborate on this.

ObamaRocks says:

I would like to know why apollospeaks thinks that the $26 billion the Teapublican shutdown cost the economy is bogus?

MY ANSWER

First off S&P is under investigation by the Justice Department for its bond rating activity (giving AAA ratings to worthless mortgaged backed securities) leading up to the 2008 housing/financial meltdown, and has every incentive to kiss Obama's butt (see). Secondly, the economic impact of the shutdown was probably zero for the sensible reasons given in this Forbes article: There Will Be No $24B Economic Loss From The Government Shutdown - Forbes

Now if S&P, Obama and his political and media proxies are going to use this bogus $24 billion to shame Republicans for the shutdown then (all being fair in love and war) why not turn it against them and use it as a baseline for determining the economic costs of Democrat shutdowns?

If you want us to read your links you'll have to provide ones that aren't biased from the outset.I love how instead of actually researching the previous shutdowns to see what they actually cost the economy you just use the recent one as a baseline and then assume that all shutdowns are equally expensive. You don't know that. You might think it sounds logical but you also think that conservatism is logical when really its quite dubious.

While the economic damage that government shutdowns (anyone's shutdowns) do to the economy is impossible to determine (S&P's figures are obviously bogus and politically driven) what we do know with certainty is that when it comes to shutdowns Democrats have out done Republicans 3:1 and racked up a total of 86 shutdown days vs 40 by Republicans. And if you (or any lib) want to imagine that 86 shutdown days could possibly do less economic damage than 40 days who then is being illogical? Who then is being biased? Who then is involved in a con?

outlandish   October 26, 2013 at 7:06am The longest Democrat shutdown was 3 days and all Tip O'Neil asked for was a personal letter for all the Democrats from Reagan asking for them to lift it. There's a huge difference between the Republican shutdowns and Democrat shutdowns and that difference is making a point with no damage as opposed to demanding their way or the economy gets it.

A PRESIDENT HELLBENT ON PROVING GOVERNMENT WORKS

The Fiscal Stimulus Failure-in-Chief with the Monetary Stimulus Failure-in-Chief looking at Jenet (QE to Infinity) Yellen, a crackpot liberal Keynesian economist nominated to head the Fed who wants more and stronger money printing madness. Will she be the one who'll inflate us to death?

For over 20 years (two lost decades) the financial and economically distressed Japanese have been using a combination of fiscal and monetary stimulus measures (Obamanomics and Bernanke's QE money printing bonanza) in a protracted attempt to restore the great prosperity of the 1980s when their corrupt, centralized, crony capitalist economy (like China's today) was hailed as the wonder of the age and model for America and the world. And look where it's got them: after trillions borrowed, printed and spent, and a staggering 220% debt, Japan is in its 4th or 5th recession in 22 years; their economy is stuck in a rut, and try as they may to borrow, spend and print their way back to nirvana they can't.... and neither can we nor any nation as all such fiscal and monetary experiments have failed whenever tried-and will continue to fail as there is no way to do it right.

But don't tell that to our brilliant, Einsteinian, mastermind prez who's come up with the novel idea that not enough money has been borrowed, printed and spent, and wants to blindly stay the Keynesian course until his presidency ends, or the country drops dead. Who insanely wants Keynesian economist and Bernanke deputy Janet Yellen to head the Fed and continue her bosses grand failures; and who's burning the midnight oil plotting and scheming to extinguish the GOP and win back the House so that with Reid and Pelosi he can SPEND BABY SPEND the nation back to robust prosperity. So he can get from a Democrat controlled Congress a new mega-stimulus bill equal or greater in size to the $860 billion behemoth he pissed away in tax rebates and payback to political allies.

But this time mastermind will spend it more wisely. This time he'll make sure they'll be shovel ready jobs galore to repair and rebuild our aging bridges and pot-holed highways This time he'll put America back to work like Hoover did and FDR who started and prolonged the Great Depression achieving nothing; and as Japan has been struggling to do with public works for seven years spending an astounding $1.8 trillion, but to no avail. Obama knows that the Japanese have failed, but like them he remains undaunted. He is hellbent on repeating the same failed solutions over and over again because, heedless of experience, he's ideologically obsessed to make them work. Obsessed to prove to the world that government is the answer and God on earth, and that Supply-Side Reaganites and Fiscal Conservatives are wrong; that we can't cut our way back to prosperity and robust growth, though this has been done many times before.

WHAT GOOD DEAL MR. PRESIDENT?

obamacare-207x300.jpg

YESTERDAY OBAMA SAID FOR THE UPTEENTH TIME: "OBAMACARE IS A GOOD DEAL FOR AMERICANS."

A good deal for which Americans, Mr. President? Not for me. Not for my family. Not for millions. Not for productive, responsible, hard working citizens. Not for the great majority that comprise middle and upper income folks who can afford medical insurance paying for it with hard earned wealth. Obamacare is not a good deal for them, Mr. President, as they're cruelly punished and deprived to benefit and subsidize non-productive citizens: the minority of low income takers, moochers and free stuff looters (the Occupy Wall Street losers) who can't afford insurance and sponge off a system going broke. Obamacare is a great deal for them, Mr. President; and they love you for it, and will sing your praises all day long at Obamaganda rallies like yesterday's smoke and mirrors show. But for the great majority it's a deal from hell as they lose jobs, income and working hours; as they're hit hard with higher costs, penalties and taxes worsening their lives so that the undeserving (in the name of equality) can thrive. For these Americans the healthcare heaven you promised was a hoax and lie masking a cruel, punishing, corrupt socialist system of redistribution injustice and crime. If you think, Mr. President, that these best of Americans (the backbone of the nation) will tolerate this injustice for long then you, sir, are in for an ugly surprise. Forward into the storm.

Democrats Have A Shot At Taking Back The House As Republican Popularity Continues To Drop: Poll

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Nydailynews_newt.jpg

In 1996 then comedian Al Frankin quipped about House Speaker Newt Gingrich: "His favorablity rating is only four points higher than the Unabomber." But dispite his national unpopularity Gingrich's House of Representatives remained Republican that year.

After Newt Gingrich and the GOP House closed the US government for a record 21 agonizing days (where the liberal press excoriated them for the pain it caused and billions lost to the economy), and with Bill Clinton emerging the victor (his approval rating soaring from the low 40s to the mid 60s while Gingrich's fell into the 20s), the Democats failed to retake the House that year winning only three seats and losing two in the Senate...despite Clinton's landslide reelection. Why then would it be different this time as HuffPo is hoping? Why are Democrats chances better now than 17 years ago especially when Barack Obama is half the prez Bill Clinton was in all essential categories: governing, leadership, negotiating and communicating-Obama lacks Clinton's gift of persuasion which is why (like Nixon) he's so mendacious and manipulative. If the moderate Bill Clinton with a robust economy and success after success in enacting legislation couldn't sweep the Dems to victory in the House how could a less gifted and radical president like the intransigent Obama with a stagnant economy, soaring deficits and debt, a failing healthcare law, continuing scandal woes and a declining country engulfed in pessimism and turmoil?

In the wake of the 21 day shutdown chances of the GOP retaining control of the House looked bleak as they seem now. But they won as they will likely do to a greater degree again given the disastrous downward trajectory of the nation and world under this blundering, incompetent, stupid, failing prez.

DoctorGreeves   October 21, 2013 at 8:02am Thanks for the good link. We should remember, however, that after the 1996 Republican shutdown elevated President Clinton's standing with Americans, the Republican response was to attempt to remove Clinton from office through the Impeachment process. Let's hope they're not thinking that way again, although I wouldn't bet coin of the realm against it.

Anytime Doc. Clinton's post-shutdown elevation had more to do with the soaring economy than with his perceived victory over Gingrich and the GOP. As long as anti-business Obama's in office creating massive uncertainty with his policies and inept leadership the economy will likely remain as flat in 2014 as it is today.

SAVIORS OF SANITY

http://www.newrepublic.com/article/115223/how-obama-reid-and-pelosi-stopped-republican-extortion

Three fanatics for the Welfare State made deaf, dumb and blind by the egalitarian ideal.

OBAMA, PELOSI & REID BELIEVE:

The greatest debtor government in world history isn't big enough or powerful enough; doesn't spend, borrow, tax or regulate enough; doesn't control, intrude and intervene in our affairs enough; doesn't redistribute income and wealth enough; doesn't love, care for and feed poor people enough; doesn't give away free stuff and goodies enough; isn't corrupt or crony capitalist enough.

$17 trillion in debt isn't enough; $70 trillion in unfunded entitlement liabilities isn't enough, $750 billion deficit isn't enough; printing trillions of fake dollars isn't enough.

No matter how much government does it is never enough for these reckless statist loons. DougSmith   October 18, 2013 at 9:29amThis wasn't about the deficit which is already coming down dramatically. Republicans and democrats had already agreed on the budget CR.It was only about Obamacare. That was the only demand the republicans had was to repeal, defund, gut or delay Obamacare.Your spin trying to make it about the debt won't work here.

The deficit is coming down in spite of Obama, Pelosi and Reid who'd boost it back up to $1 trillion plus if they had their way. Damn those pesky limited gov't obstructionist, Republicans and their deficit cutting "devastating" Sequester! Damn them!

BTW, it's about stopping and gutting Obamunism....the totality of Obama's policies, programs and schemes to vastly increase the morally corrosive Welfare State and government dependency.

PBOHIO   October 18, 2013 at 9:46amSo, Apollo,,,were you also complaining when GW left office with a $1.4 Trillion Dollar deficit? Are you complaining that it is now down UNDER $700 Billion? Why do you all tend to forget unless you pay the BALANCE of your credit card every month, the balance carries over until the next month. We are still paying for the "drunken sailors" in the last administration. SS has NOTHING to do with the deficit or the debt. It is NOT included. It is self funded. As for MC,,we(seniors) have paid into the program since 1965. That was the first year I held a full time job. So, all my working years, I paid into that program. I still pay a premium monthly for my coverage. How about your parents,,do they get a check every month and do they have MC? If they aren't old enough, how about your grandparents? Get a clue.

I'd bet you're so gullible that you accept as truth the big lie that the great Barack Obama's massive $860 billion stimulus saved us from a national and worldwide depression. I say this because it's obvious that you believe the even bigger lie that the 2009 budget was Bush's not Obama's. Now to see how mistaken you are you need to do your homework about which president signed the 2009 budget into law; whose ever name is on it owns the world's first, record shattering $trillion deficit for that year of a whopping $1.4 trillion. And guess what? Bush's signature isn't on it.

PBOHIO   October 18, 2013 at 11:49amOnce again you ignore the fact that Bush wrote his budget for 2009. You do know that the wars were never added to the Bush deficit, right? That was always done under "special funding". LOL...you really need to get some facts straight.

LOL!!! Bush's 2009 budget was rejected by Pelosi and Reid in 2008 because it called for a modest 3% increase in spending. Anticipating that Obama would defeat McCain they delayed the budget until he started his first term. The March 2009 budget of Obama, Pelosi and Reid saw an astonishing spending hike of 17.9% over Bush's 2008 budget. That was 14.9% more than Bush wanted in 2008 before the election.

factsnotfoxnews   October 18, 2013 at 1:10pmI think the biggest misconception of the far right is that democrats don't care about the debt. But as history has proven, the left is actually quite a bit better at handling the economy. I do not care how tired you are of hearing it, this really is a result of the tax cuts and two wars that were put on a credit card by you-know-who. Keep pointing out the same number over and over again and you'll get the same answer. It will take a decade (if we're lucky) to get out of the mess left behind in 2008.

In 2008 George Bush submitted a budget to the Democrat led Congress calling for a modest 3% spending increase over his 2008 budget. Pelosi and Reid anticipating Barack Obama winning the election rejected Bush's budget. And less than three months into his new term Obama signed off on a budget with a staggering spending increase of 17.9% giving the world it's first $trillion deficit of $1.4 trillion. Bush's spending never exceeded 20% of GDP. Obama's hit 25%, the biggest in US peacetime history. And I can go on showing how Obama is the most reckless spending head of state in world history... who's now crying because HIS Sequester and the GOP are obstructing his insane radical leftwing  aganda for A More Perfect (soak the middle class) Welfare Union. See Peter Beinhart on the real winner of the shutdown/debt ceiling battle.

Look at the tragedy that's overtaken bankrupt, broken Democrat Detroit..its a microcosm of failed liberal (War On Poverty) welfare policies ignored by our stuck on stupid wingnut president....who opposed Clinton's Welfare Reform Act of 1996. BARACK OBAMA’S CLOUD OF UNCERTAINTY

http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/business-man-cloud-head-question-exclamation-marks-concept-32854835.jpg

Obama is cloudman living in cloudland spreading the fog of uncertainty and gloom like an insidious plague.

At his speech last night announcing the Senate agreement to reopen the slightly closed government and raise the debt ceiling to new highs I heard an epically failing president absurdly say that once he signs the bill (which he did today) "we can begin to lift this CLOUD OF UNCERTAINTY AND UNEASE from our businesses and from the American people" and get the economy moving again.

"We could begin what?" Mr. President. "Lift the cloud of uncertainty and unease?" As if what? This cloud started forming 17 days ago with the shutdown, and it was all sweetness and light beforehand with the economy ready to take off into boomland? Is that what you mean? And that the public's unease, uncertainty and deepening economic gloom where consumers aren't spending, banks lending, and businesses investing fearing bad times ahead are unrelated to your trickle growth economy after promising a robust recovery? Unrelated to your fiscal and monetary policies (Bernanke is your man) with trillions spent and printed but to no avail-policies that have failed for everyone who's tried them especially Japan for 22 years (the inventors of QE with debt in the stratosphere)? Unrelated to a $17 trillion crushing debt, soaring deficits and staggering amounts of unfunded entitlement liabilities 4x greater than the debt? Unrelated to your weak, mendacious, rudderless leadership which offers no unity of purpose or aim, faith in the future or moral clarity on issues? You, sir, are a great cloud of contradictions and confusion to the nation spreading this uncertainty like a plague; an unsteady, vacillating, inept man driving the ship of state on a perilous course -a course you insist is the right one for America and refuse to change though the public rightly senses disaster ahead. If you think this cloud which is mostly your doing will magically disappear because of yesterday's event you will soon be disappointed. It's here to stay as long as your president.

POSTSCRIPT

Obamunism (the totality of Obama's programs, policies and (lack of) leadership aiming at A More Perfect Dependency Union) are a lead blanket around the economy suppressing optimism, hurting growth, killing jobs and private investment. Yet the Economic Failure-in- Chief  (the Great Depressor) complained today that the 16 day mini-government shutdown (which he could have easily prevented) did  much damage to the economy; and caused companies planning to hire people to put it off for six months. What a load of puking political crap. I defy Obama just to name one of these companies.

WHERE’S BILL CLINTON WHEN WE NEED HIM?

Is the man on the right secretly eating his heart out over the man on the left's immaturity, arrogance and intransigence in the shutdown and debt ceiling wars?

WHERE'S BILL CLINTON WHEN WE NEED HIM?
Bill Clinton was a mixed bag as president. Yes, his affordable housing program for millions of low income folks (a gigantic reckless government mandated bubble) imploded in 2008 and sent the economy into a depression bound tailspin from which we're still reeling-with no little help from Obama. But when it came to the Gingrich/GOP three week government shutdown Clinton was a model of presidential leadership handling himself like a grown up and pro. From start to finish he engaged with Republicans earnestly seeking a solution without resorting to name calling, demonization and trying to humiliate his opponents. What did he do to reopen the government? He compromised for the good of the country and his reelection dreams. Agreeing with Gingrich to cut spending, lower taxes and balancing the federal budget spending dropped in the years ahead from 22% of GDP to 18%; the economy and markets soared; and the budget was balanced for four straight years-a feat not seen since Calvin Coolidge and the Conservative Roaring Twenties.
In fact, shortly after the shutdown ended, and to the delight of Gingrich and the GOP, Clinton declared in his State of the Union that "The era of big government is over;" and meaning what he said Clinton signed into law later that year his signature achievement: "The Welfare Reform Act" which hugely reduced government welfare dependency (opposed by then state senator Barack Obama) forcing able bodied welfare moochers to work and earn their way.
Where's the grown up, moderate, unifying, 1996 Bill Clinton when we need him to end the shut down and raise the debt ceiling with offsetting spending cuts... which the American people want? Instead of Bill Clinton we have the anti-Clinton in the White House...a reelected president unworthy to be his political shadow; "the biggest fairytale I've ever seen," said Clinton of Obama during the 08 campaign; a divisive, incompetent, arrogant, demagogic, hyperpartisan, immature, rank amateur who is clueless on how to govern, lead, negotiate or even communicate effectively (he lacks the gift of persuasion). After four and a half dreadful years in office Hillary Clinton's tearful prediction that under Obama "the country would fall backwards" has unfortunately materialized. Indeed, instead of the promised MORE PERFECT UNION we have more perfect dis-union, strife and confusion. We're a rudderless nation adrift on a sea of growing troubles and pessimism, declining economically, militarily and geopolitically while Obama smiles, lies, campaigns and plays golf. Despite Clinton's show of support for Obama and the Dems he must be secretly eating his heart out over their immaturity, intransigence and extremism... especially as they could ruin his wife's electoral chances in 2016, which may be happening.

CRUZING ALONG WITH TEA PARTY AMERICA

 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/politics/

Newt Gingrich: Ted Cruz Is A 'Dramatic Dissenter To The Washington Establishment'

AND TO HIS CONSERVATIVE TEA PARTY CREDIT THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THE BRAVE, GUTSY, INDEFATIGABLE TED CRUZ IS: A NECESSARY DISSENTER TO THE POLITICS AS USUAL STATUS QUO!

Newt understands that the Washington political status quo (which is hugely unpopular) of big government Democrats and establishment Republicans (the Obamas, Pelosis and Reids, the McConnells, McCains and Boehners) is on an unsustainable fiscal course leading us to certain catastrophe. With $17 trillion in debt, $700 trillion in deficits, and more than $70 trillion in unfunded entitlement liabilities (which now includes $2.6 trillion IRS enforced Obamacare) the DC establishment is spending this nation into oblivion-spending it into broken, bankrupt, socialist Greece and blood in the streets, and needs a bad shake up. And Ted Cruz and "delusional" Tea Party "extremists" in Congress (who believe in such radical things as limited government, fiscal discipline and personal moral restraint) are shaking things up and must stay the course whatever the political cost in the short run as the nation faces ruination unless something drastic is done.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Nydailynews_newt.jpg

Newt also understands that the radical 21 day government shutdown that he headed back in1995-1996 (the longest in US history) proved to be a smashing Republican-Conservative success.  How? Not only did Republicans keep control of the House and pick up two Senate seats that year, they also forced Bill Clinton into a fiscally conservative direction where he reduced the size, scope and expense of the federal government. Indeed, just three weeks after the shutdown ended Clinton (seeing the light) announced in his State of the Union speech "the era of big government is over." And what followed six months later was Clinton's signature achievement: The Welfare Reform Act (opposed by Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the Left) which significantly reduced government dependency putting many able- bodied welfare mothers to work earning money and paying taxes.

But that's not all. Under Clinton government spending as a percentage of GDP shrunk from 22% to 18% (see) producing four consecutive balanced budgets and budget surpluses....unseen since the era of Calvin Coolidge and the Roaring Conservative Twenties. None of this would have happened without Newt as House Speaker daring to shut down the bloated federal government for three nerve-wracking weeks where he was mocked, blasted and raked over the coals by the liberal  press for his reckless "right-wing extremism." Ted Cruz and Tea Party Conservatives in Congress are the "reckless right-wing" Newts of our day, and need support from every true Conservative and right minded American fearful about the country's perilous direction and future.

TEA PARTY TODAY!

TEA PARTY TOMORROW!

TEA PARTY FOREVER!

My reply What specific regulations were relaxed that caused the Depression? And if Hoover wasn't a big gov't, Republican, tax and spend liberal (like his hero Teddy Roosevelt) why then did FDR run to the right of Hoover in 1932 as a fiscal conservative calling for fiscal restraint and a balanced budget? Why then did FDR's running mate brand Hoover a "socialist? Perhaps his deficit spending on government programs like public works, had something to do with it? Or maybe it was his exorbitant tax hikes on the rich to pay for his programs? Moreover, If Hoover wasn't liberal why then in 1920 did Woodrow Wilson urge him to run for the Democratic nomination with FDR as his running mate? Could it be that Hoover's Progressivism had something to do with it? Both parties (Republican and Democrat) at the time had their Progressive and Conservative wings. And Hoover (unlike Coolidge) belonged to the Progressive wing of the GOP. BTW it was Hoover who famously said: "What's wrong with Capitalism are Capitalists." A very right-wing statement, no?

Barack Obama has stopped us from being Grecified? The man who cries that his $860 billion stimulus was undersized? Who submitted two budgets to Congress  insanely calling for $1 trillion deficits (both rejected by Repubs and Dems); and wants a clean increase in the debt ceiling with no off setting spending cuts? And signed into law a healthcare reform bill whose cost estimates have nearly tripled from $900 billion to an unsustainable $2.6 trillion (CBO)? And how much "unpatriotic" debt has the treasury accumulated under Obama? A staggering $7 trillion and growing? Without question Barack Obama with his egalitarian Greece like vison of A MORE PERFECT SANTA CLAUS DEPENDENCY UNION is the most reckless spending head of state in all of world history.   What America deperately needs (and will get) is AUSTERITY ECONOMICS. And the Tea Party is here to give it to us.

Bush was this global economic abyss... depression, the TEA baggers/G00pers would not have done any better than Obama with deficit spending...because.. Obama continued the same economic Bush policies
When the recession began in 2007, Bush stated the he was “giving up on his Capitalist principles” and put throug a 900-billion $$$$$ bailout, and was ready with ANOTHER 900 billion later if necessary. So this 900 billion, which Obama reduced to $700 billion was already scheduled to happen during the next administration, either Rep or Dem, and amounted to half of Obama’s accumulated debt...all to save this country (as well as the world) from a total economic abyss.
My reply If Gore or Kerry were prez in 2008 they too would have had to bail out the busted banks from the gov't mandated subprime housing bubble that started with Bill Clinton, and his reckless Gov't/Wall Street Affordable Housing Partnership (the beginning of the "Mortgages for Anyone Era). Nevertheless, Bush was a big spending, big gov't disaster; and Obama, with his crackpot vision of A More Perfect Dependency Union, is an utter catastrophe in the making. BTW, when Obama took office in January 2009 the worst was already past and the economy was on the mend. The v-shaped recovery began in December 2008 as the BEA's GDP charts show. Also are you ready for the 2nd GM collapse? 93% of its car loans are subprime: it's cars for anyone time. They learned nothing from Clinton's subprime bubble.

TRIPOLI, Libya -- TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) — Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zidan was abducted by gunmen who snatched him from his hotel and held him for several hours Thursday in apparent retaliation for a U.S. special forces raid that captured an al-Qaida suspect in the capital last weekend.

The brazen abduction, which ended with Zidan's rescue, underscored the lawlessness gripping Libya two years after the ouster of autocrat Moammar Gadhafi. The weak central government is virtually hostage to multiple, independent-minded militias — many of them made up of Islamic militants — that serve as security forces and hold sway across the country. read more.

Post-Kaddafy oil production (Libya's chief export) has fallen almost 90% down from 1.4 million barrels per day to a pitiable 160,000 barrels as the country's economy collapses into depression and ruin.

The stars were malevolently aligned against Obama following the French into Libya (like we did in Vietnam) as I and others predicted. From the start the senseless plan to depose Kaddafy (based on lies about Assad-like mass murders of innocents) was doomed to fail-Obama ominously ordered hostilties to begin on March 19, 2011 the 8th anniversary of Shock & Awe and the Iraq War. And now the worst is happening in Libya unfolding like a bad dream disowned by Obama and ignored by the lapdog media who had hailed Kaddafy's overthrow as a great foreign policy achievement (no US boots on the ground) in contrast to Bush's ground invasion of Iraq. And now

LIBYA HAS JOINED OBAMA'S GROWING LIST OF DISASTERS

This includes the economy (worst recovery since Great Depression), national debt (added $7 trillion and growing), faith in the future (pessimism engulfs nation  depressing consumer spending, bank lending and business investments), healthcare reform (train wreck), Detroit (bankrupt), national unity (coast to coast chaos), confidence in government (at all time low), GM bailout (subprime loan crash coming), the Moslem Outreach Initiative (Obama's America more hated than Bush's in region), Egypt (in ruins), Russia reset policy (an appeasement debacle), regime change in Syria (this century's worst mass murderer staying in power), Iraq pullout (vacuum filled by al-Qaida terrorist mayhem), Afghanistan (failure of surge Taliban winning), the Iranian bomb (months away?), restoring America's image (we're the world's laughingstock), etc. etc.

Those who dispute that Libya is an Obama disaster forget that before the Benghazi cover-up and protection scandal Team Obama was praising Kaddafy's overthrow as a success for the administration: "an enlightened reset of [Bush's] Middle East policies" it was called. In reality, Obama turned Bush's success in moderating Libya (scaring Kaddafy into surrendering his WMDs after he saw the downfall and capture of Saddam) into a failed Arab state. No doubt about it,  Post-Kaddafy Libyan chaos is an Obama/NATO disaster.

THE SECRET TO BARACK OBAMA’S INEFFECTIVE SCAREMONGERING

One of  the few gullible Americans reacting to Obama's
weak scaremeggedon rhetoric.

Why did Barack Obama fail to whip up anti-Republican hysteria over the sequester cuts, and now is failing to do the same over the mini shut down of the federal government and looming debt ceiling crisis? The answer is simple: you can't communicate fear and scare the hell out of people unless you're truly scared yourself believing in the things you want others to dread. Take George Bush for example: during the housing/credit crash five years ago he was genuinely fearful to the point of being terrified that the economy could collapse into a second great depression if the government didn't act quickly to avert it.  He effectively made us fear what he genuinely and deeply felt; and the country and markets reacted putting pressure on Congress to act in enacting TARP to bail out the busted banks and prevent financial and economic chaos.

But Obama talks about horrific things, like domestic and global economic devastation from sequesters, shut downs and unraised debt ceilings (if Republicans don't do this or that), in cool, passive, unscary tones as if he's just faking it and not really meaning what he says. The public unmoved by his mild, tranquil,  unalarming rhetoric reacts with indifference treating his doomsday speeches and scenarios for what they are: empty, insincere, partisan political talk....which they've heard a thousand times before. As the public intuitively senses Obama's phoniness and duplicity and that he's playing them for gullible fools he cheapens himself losing more and more of his shrinking credibility and moral authority as his approval rating drops and his presidency erodes.

Bill Clinton: GOP 'Begging For America To Fail'

Former President Bill Clinton weighed in on an increasingly likely government shutdown in an interview with ABC's 'This Week'. Clinton criticized Republican demands, as well as their obsession with Obamacare.

"I've never seen a time-- can you remember a time in your lifetime when a major political party was just sitting around, begging for America to fail?" read more..

GOP BEGGING AMERICA TO FAIL?

This is funny coming from the man who as president recklessly mandated the nation's worst and greatest housing bubble (to artificially stimulate robust home ownership growth mostly for the poor*); and by doing so set in motion the train of events that ended in the catastrophic housing/credit crash of 2008-from which our struggling economy hasn't fully recovered.

*It was Clinton's Social Justice War On Poverty by other means.

Hillary 2016? Don't count on it if she should run. Once the public learns the central role played by her husband in causing the Great Recession and housing crash (he was the fountainhead) her chances of succeeding Obama as president will greatly, greatly shrink.

POSTSCRIPT

BILL CLINTON'S ERA OF MORTGAGES FOR EVERYONE

The bad, destructive, corrosive seed of the "Mortgages for Everyone Era" that ended in catastrophe with trillions lost was planted by Bill Clinton and his reckless, progressive, leftwing goal of subprime loaning a flat, stagnant housing market into booming, rip roaring activity in just a few short years (primarily to benefit the poor). And Clinton succeeded beyond his wildest dreams which turned into the nightmare of Lehman Brothers, failing banks, and trillions lost in the 08 market crash.

Indeed, what was a stagnant market when Clinton took office in 1993 (the home ownership rate was at 64% unchanged  for many years) was growing by 10% by 2000 when the dot.com bubble burst and the market crashed. It was then (with a soaring market at 68%) that events took an ominous turn making the Clinton Housing/Credit Debacle inevitable; for investors (turned off to stocks) jumped aboard Clinton's subprime loan driven phony real estate boom growing the bubble to catastrophic (not seen before) proportions that ended in ruin.

Indeed, the bad seed that Clinton sowed was watered by Fannie, Freddie (they guaranteed how many millions of risky loans at the prompting of Andew Cuomo?) Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Kit Bond, Alan Greenspan and Ben Bernanke (who denied in 2006 there was a housing bubble)-then Goldman Sachs, Lehmans and others got into the act bundling billions of junk loans that received AAA ratings because of backing from the GSEs. In short, the crash began with Clinton and his well-meaning but crackpot social justice scheme of affordable housing for all by corrupting the mortgage industry like never before. it's beyond dispute that if Clinton hadn't been president the housing/credit crash would not have happened; and Barack Hussein Obama (one of our worst presidents ever) might have stayed in the US Senate where he belonged.

JOHN BOEHNER COME TO YOUR SENSES!

Unless you reopen the government without conditions, and raise the debt ceiling with no strings attached, Obama will order Jack Lew to default on the debt-by not using one red cent of the $250 billion in monthly tax receipts to service the $20 b interest on the debt. And you know what that means John. It means catastrophe for the good faith and credit of the US-with Moodys downgrading us to a D and no one buying our bonds unless interest is 20%. How can we do that? It means a devastating 29 market crash; it means millions losing work; it means a double dip recession or worse. It means destroying the world economy, turning it into Detroit or Greece with blood flowing like rivers in every city street. In short, it means the end of the world before the coming of Jesus; before climate change melts the poles and we live at sea or drown to death. Is that what you and the Tea Party want? Is that the legacy you wish to leave your kids?

Beware Mr. Speaker, beware! Obama means business this time around. This is no phony sequester-scare. This is no fake red line in the sand. Come to your senses. Do the right thing. You hold the fate of the world in your hands. Oppose the party of no and say yes. Lew won't pay our crushing debt unless you give his boss everything.

AMERICA WHICH IS BEING LED BY A MAN

who ominously started his presidency by bungling the oath of office, and has been blundering his way through a rudderless and incoherent five years creating division, uncertainty and chaos (who treats our adversaries better than our friends practicing appeasement without end) is making us look confused, befuddled and weak to the world? How is that possible? How can it be? I thought he was improving our image, standing and prestige? I thought he was reversing the decline of the Bush years? I thought we were coming back stronger than ever more respected and esteemed? Has the world gone mad? Or has it turned racist joining the vast right-wing, anti-Obama conspiracy to make him look bad? In short, has the Tea Party gone global? Must be. How else could there be such worldwide unease?

Obama corrected nothing. He followed Robert's error to the tee misplacing the word "faithfully" in the oath-the worst blunder ever committed at a presidential inaugural; along with Ted Kennedy's collapse from a LEFT-sided brain tumor (Kennedy was O's mentor and kingmaker) it was the ill-omened beginning of a disastrously bad presidency-that seems to be getting worse by the day as O's approval rating slides towards the 30% range.

realpragmatist   October 5, 2013 at 9:52am Being the President of the United States (which is also leader of the free world and the world's only super power) is a very powerful and difficult job. There is conflict of interest, compromises to be made along the way to get something done, and you forget the idealism that you had when you first ran for Presidency. This would be my best guess. This is true of all Presidents of both parties. The problems of the world involve more challenges that going to a top Ivy law school + MBA or being the editor of the prestigious Harvard Law Review (as I understand, an extraordinary achievement).

Tip O'Neil and the Democrats backed by a virulently hostile adversarial press fought and opposed Reagan's economic, domestic and (anti-Soviet) foreign policies tooth and nail. Add to that the massive Nuclear Freeze Movement and widespread protests in Europe against Perishing missile deployments and what Obama faces in comparison (with sycophantic lap-dog media support) is kid stuff. As for Clinton he endured impeachment for perjury and overcame it. Reagan and Clinton rose to their  challenges and triumphed. Obama in comparison being a weak, dithering, unprofessional pipsqueak is failing his smaller challenges miserably. "Much power and little wisdom is doomed to fail," said an ancient Chinese sage. This maxim sums up the failing Obama presidency.

Both Roberts and Obama bungled the oath on the all important word "faithfully"-signifying that he wouldn't be faithful to the Constitution, or to the exalted moral spirit of Abe Lincoln on whose Bible he took his botched oath.

Obama dithered and delayed for 7 months before he ordered the raid on Bin Ladin's compound putting the mission at risk. If McCain or Bush had been prez bin Laden would have been dead before XMAS.

As Obama is the most reckless spending head of state in world history (submitting insane budgets to Congress calling for $trillion deficits and wanting control of the debt limit) he needs to be obstructed and restrained by a more fiscally sensible and prudent Congress to slow down and reverse our entitlement spending drive to national bankruptcy.

On Iran Obama continued the sanctions of Bush and added a few. But the Islamo-fascist mullahs are hell-bent on becoming the nuclear North Korea (crippling sanctions didn't stop them) of the Middle East, and are playing our weak president to a that they get there.

Russia and Iran are riding our weak president to the goal of keeping Bashar Assad in power-the worst mass murdering war criminal of the 21st century. With good reason Obama is neither respected nor feared around the world as he's rightly perceived as a blundering amateur on the world stage.

You mean that one of those branches doesn't believe in the president's government supremacism; and the destructive, insane, utopian idea that an imperfect government run by imperfect bureaucrats can perfect an imperfect society of imperfect citizens? And because Republicans don't believe in this nonsense they're anarchists and nihilists? If so then so were the limited government, free market Founders.

photo
Hayduke1969   October 6, 2013 at 10:14amYou've captured the essence of the synthetic ideology:  This notion that responsible adults trying to make good responsible legislation and implement policies that allow a modern economy and society to function efficiently, is part of some unnatural plot towards "gov't supremacism" and "utopian" ambition.  It's the real world.  We need roads and schools and health insurance.  We're in this together and government is our mechanism (i.e. us, collectively doing what we can't do individually).  This is how humans live in complex industrialized 21st century countries.  It is good and proven. Only among American Bubble-dwellers must this be spelled out.  Government is good at many things, as proven by your species in normal countries... including ours, for the past couple centuries.  Your ideology is synthetic because it was fabricated unnaturally.  It's not made of reality - or real stuff.  Indeed, the Utopians are the Ayn Randian Kochs and tea baggers that dream of an 18th Century ideal that never existed.  Utopia, a word coined by 17th century theologian Thomas More, is Greek for "No Place".  That is where the baggers are going.

Was Jefferson who said "That government is best that governs least," a nihilistic anarchist? No more than limited government Tea Party conservatives, and most Americans who believe that the federal gov't is way too big, way too powerful, way too expensive and wasteful in spending, and way too intrusive and meddlesome in their lives. No place is the belief that human government, given man's intellectual and moral limitations, can perfect society through unlimited power (which always corrupts),unlimited spending (which ends in bankruptcy) and redistribution of wealth (which causes morally destructive gov't dependency, as FDR said). That mindless, emotion based, fantasy driven ideology ends in the tragedy of broken, bankrupt, socialist Greece, or Corruptocrat, impoverished, third world-like Detroit, or (the greatest failed government supremacist experiment of all) the communist Soviet State. With $17 trillion in national debt, and $70 trillion in unfunded entitlement liabilities, the age of big government (spend our way to perfection) liberalism is over.

photo
Hayduke1969   October 6, 2013 at 11:39amYeah, again, we need roads, schools and health care.  I make more money than most and pay a lot of taxes... but I'm ok with that, because if no roads, schools or health care existed, my country would be crappy.  This isn't some grand ideological battle.  This is common sense.  The Baggers have no interest in policy, statistics or economics.  They're not influenced by experts or (gawd forbid) academics who know things about things.  They run on pure distilled ideology.  And that's what other healthy democracies (and normal Americans watching this train wreck) cannot understand.   Our government isn't taking over your life.  That's pure abstract nonsense.  Only bubble dwellers could perceive the world that way.  Nothing has changed except for the rhetoric bouncing around in the Bubble.  Nothing.  Taxes are at historic lows.  The deficit is too large, but much of that is a function of Recession - which always impacts income and spending at the Treasury - and the Pentagon.  We need to raise taxes on the rich a little bit... most rich people would agree with this.  But the apocalyptic rhetoric from the Right is not rooted in Reality.  That's - again - where educated Europeans, Asians and Canadians shake their heads.  Everybody in the US needs to simmer down.

If you spent beyond your means borrowing (like the federal government) 40 cents for every dollar spent you'd wind up in the poor house like Detroit and 100 bankrupted municipalities across the country. Driven by a radical and ruinous entitlement mentality the number of productive citizens like you (taking less from gov't than paying in taxes) is critically and dangerously shrinking. A hugely expanding government spreading the poison of dependency with a shrinking tax base spells moral, fiscal and economic collapse-the unsustainable course we're on. Like socialist Sweden in the 1990s we need the solution of austerity economics (slashing taxes, spending, regulations, public sector jobs, pensions, etc) to save us from catastrophe...and hopefully will get it as a growing number of Americans see the need for it.

photo
Hayduke1969   October 6, 2013 at 4:21pmOK, I thought we were having an honest discussion.  But if you're holding out Detroit as your evidence that we're a socialist country on the verge of collapse, you're not engaged in honest inquiry.  (Perhaps the loss of the auto industry may have contributed to Detroit's economic troubles?)   And the government isn't expanding.  It's shrinking.  The decrease in public sector workforce has contributed heavily to the unemployment numbers.  Deficits skyrocket during recessions; this one has been long and deep.  The Tea Party meme-crafters try to conflate (and confuse) deficit with size of gov't. The only ruinous entitlement mentality I see destroying the country is coming from billionaire trust-funders like the Kochs.  Their entitlement mentality is literally tearing this country apart.  To blame the poor for any part of the current situation is nothing short of absurd.  Can we at least agree on THAT point?

Detroit is a dire warning of what awaits America when the number of productive citizens like yourself dramatically decrease (like they did in Greece) and are overtaken by the moochers and free loaders given handouts by politicians wanting votes in the name of social justice. Underlying the rot of Detroit is the entitlement mentality run amuck rooted in LBJ's devastating War On Poverty which was a factor in Detroit's tragic downfall. The rising tide of drug abuse, illiteracy, violent crime, out of wedlock births and poverty (despite billions spent in welfare payments) is what you get from the insane idea that government spending is the solution for poverty and economic distress.

When you reward something you get more of it. Since the War On Poverty began in 1965 what does the liberal welfare state have to show for the trillions transferred from haves to have nots? More poverty and social pathologies than ever before. So much for the Great Society.

If you hate the Koch boys you must utterly resent Barack Obama as the endless Obama-Bernanke QE program-that drives the phony, artificial, manipulated market boom-has increased their wealth (and that of the top 1%) by up to 11%; while the rest of us poor slobs have seen a pitiable increase of only 1%. That's Obama fairness for you. What an efen hypocrite. So much for his More Perfect Union.

wtg246   October 5, 2013 at 10:10amYou just made a great point of what kind of man President Obama is. He didn't make the error when taking the oath. The supreme court justice made the error. Obamacare is deceptively designed by its socialist authors to turn private insurers into public utilities by controlling the cost of premiums. Google "More Evidence That Health Insurers Will Become Public Utilities."

photo
mscaroline   October 6, 2013 at 3:12pmThe cost of the premiums need to be controlled.  Why do you think 48 million Americans don't have it?  Our health care system, insurance, medical & pharmaceutical is the most expensive in the the world.  It is rigged for profit.  Your premiums double and triple, then if you need it because of a serious illness, they drop you.  The current system in it's present form does not work.

Our system is the most expensive in the world because Americans are the sickest people in the world-caused by our lifestyle (the choices we make in our diet, exercise and pleasures). Obamacare like Romneycare is doomed to fail in bending the healthcare cost curve (it's already up to $2.6 t from $900 b) because it's based on the obsolete model of interventionist medicine, not preventive medicine. "Prevention is worth a pound of cure." Interventionist medicine means eventual bankruptcy or rationing and scarcity of healthcare services.

By Republicans "joining the real world" and moving "FORWARD" you mean becoming leftwing utopian egalitarian idealists like the president? To spend baby spend and go deeper and deeper into debt until we reach the promised land of a classless, government dependent society of economic equals? Is this unreachable dream of social justice (which has failed wherever it's been tried) what you mean by "real world?"

I LOVE OBAMA RIGHT OR WRONG! (A LOVE POEM)

I LOVE OBAMA RIGHT OR WRONG.
Good or bad I love ObamaCare.
Though trillions are spent we can't afford,
And millions lose hours, wages and work,
Though I lose my doctor and healthcare plan,
 And premium costs bust through the roof;
Though government shuts down,
And veterans are hurt,
And healthcare exchanges go berserk.
Though markets fall,
The economy sinks,
Putin screws us,
And the Mideast burns.
Though millions of illegals are amnestied
And we look like a joke to the rest of the world.
For me Barack Obama's the greatest man
To walk on planet earth.

Periwinkle  October 4, 2013 at 8:00amYou ought to love Obamacare. It's the Republican plan put up against Hillarycare and enacted in Massachusetts. You should especially love the mandate which was created by Jim DeMint's Heritage Foundation back in the day. The whole plan of everyone being covered by private insurance used to be called "personal responsibility" and the "free market working." (All that other stuff can be resolved in half an hour if Boehner puts a clean bill on the floor of the House. The Republican votes are there.)

That $2.6 trillion Obamacare will bend the bankrupting healthcare cost curve and save us from fiscal disaster? That al-Qaida was decimated? That a protest mob angered by a video killed four Americans in Benghazi?  That there'd be no pork in the stimulus bill? That our borders are secure? That Gitmo would be closed before 2010? That the sequester would cause mass starvation and Armageddon? That the IRS-Tea party scandal originated from and was limited to the Cleveland IRS office? That the Fort Hood shooting was "workplace violence?" That the NSA doesn't spy on US citizens? etc., etc., etc. The most mendacious president since Richard Nixon must be proud of himself.

“$1000 REWARD

For anyone who can explain to me what Obama said Tuesday: that Republicans in wanting to delay for a year (as a condition for preventing a government shutdown) the hugely unpopular Individual Tax Mandate for millions of struggling middle class Americans equates to a "dismantling and defunding of Obamacare" How would this delay (wanted by most Americans) be any more or less destructive to Obamacare than the 1400 wavers from the Employer Tax Mandate given by corrupt, hypocritical, crony capitalist Obama to large, greedy, money hoarding corporations like McDonalds, Red Lobster, Olive Garden and AETNA? Whoever explains this to me (and how the president is being fair in not doing for the working man what he's doing for big business) will be $1000 richer. HUFFPO COMMENTS

photo
prudencehall   October 2, 2013 at 12:56pm Again, you are misinformed. Is it even worth explaining it to you? Okay... last time: You do not attach conditions that are unrelated to the bill at the last minute and threaten not to pass the measure unless your unrelated conditions are met. That is extortion. What the Republicans tried and failed to do was wrong - the ACA is not a part of the CR to fund the government. It would be like passing a tax-cut bill and then adding - "oh, yeah, and we wont sign the tax cut bill unless you sign an assault weapons ban".Does that clear things up for you? What the Republicans tried to do was bad form and a terrible precedent.
To reply to this comment, follow the link below: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/social/Apollodorus/house-shutdown-battle_n_4026702_289192378.html
My reply LOL!!! The Dems played the same game with Ford, Carter and Reagan. Under Carter they shut down the gov't three times in four years; under Reagan an astonishing 6 times in eight years. Then there was the Dems betraying Reagan on spending cuts for tax hikes (never getting the promised cuts)-which they repeated with Bush 41. When it comes to "extortion" Republicans have a lot of catching up to do.

BTW attaching conditions that are unrelated to a bill is a common legislative practice going back centuries.

prudencehall   October 2, 2013 at 1:13pm See... I should have gone with my initial reaction to you - it clearly wasn't worth explaining it to you.No, no Democrat ever did this - ever. You are stunningly misinformed. That's the most you will ever get out of me again. You are stunningly misinformed.

geejai54   October 2, 2013 at 7:44am It not hugely unpopular, that's the Republican talking point. There is no need to delay. This bill was passed 3 years ago. And a year from now the Republicans would try for another scheme to delay or defund. There plan is to totally repeal the ACA, nothing less. But you know this. The waiver to Employers was a concession to Republicans. So they wanted a delay for the large , greedy money hoarding corporations. So how do I claim my $ 1000 reward?

Not hugely unpopular? Depends on what you mean by "huge." Perhaps a 19 point spread-as reported in recent CNN (57/38) and FOX (54/35) polls-separating opponents and supporters of Obamacare isn't huge for you, but it is for me and most folks.

Republicans universally want wavers for all individuals and businesses.  Wavers to the 1400 big boys were concessions by lying, corrupt, crony capitalist Obama to each due to vigorous corporate lobbying.

Repubs trying another delay scheme a year from now would put them on the same level of Democrats.

4pathfinder6   October 2, 2013 at 8:00amYou're missing the larger point. The Republicans refused repeated invitations to negotiate responsibly on the budget through the conference process. They deliberately waited until they could use the threat of a government shutdown as leverage. Next they'll try doing the same thing with the debt ceiling. It would be foolish for any party, Democrat or Republican, to be drawn into negotiations - on anything - with a gun at their head. Let it happen now, and it will happen again and again. The Republicans made a bet that the Democrats would make this fatal error, and they seem to be losing their bet.

You're missing the even larger point of the Democrats shutting out Republicans from the Obamacare conferences caring nothing for their input for putting together a politically and socially unifying bipartisan bill like Social Security and Medicare. FDR and LBJ are rolling in their graves at the Dems' stupidity; the acrimony, division and chaos are on their heads for ramming through unilaterally a major piece of legislation that was hugely unpopular at the time, and is more so today.

DEMS SHUTDOWN GOVERNMENT RATHER THAN GRANT TAX RELIEF TO MIDDLE CLASS

http://piperreport.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/ACA-Individual-Mandate.jpg

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN?

The Republican's spending bill called for a one year exemption on the hugely unpopular Individual ObamaCare Mandate for struggling middle class families who can't afford the NEW TAX-the Supreme Court upheld ObamaCare on the constitutionality(?) of the Individual Mandate being a TAX. Obama and Dems who PLEDGED no new taxes on the middle class and granted 1400  wavers to Fat Cat Billionaires, Wall Street Banksters and Money Hoarding Corporations, flat out said "NO!" to the GOP proposal.

NO WAVER ON THE MANDATE TAX! NO TAX RELIEF FOR THE WORKING MIDDLE CLASS!

Who is it that's being stiff-necked, intransigent, unreasonable, unfair? Who is it that broke the pledge of no new taxes on working Americans and is now denying them relief from the ObamaCare Tax for a year? Who shut down the government for the 18th time in 37 years? Republicans who want tax relief and fairness for the middle class? Or Democrats who won't compromise on the imposition of the tax mandate while granting 1400 wavers to the top 1%. Who?

Okay. Assuming you're right that the GOP is responsible for the gov't shutdown, are they morally wrong to do it? If the shoe were on the other foot would you oppose the Dems for doing the same thing? Or would you be cheering them and justifying the shut down?
